This session will provide an overview of the New Jersey Theatre’s Alliance’s website and how cultural organizations can post their accessible events. The importance of advisory committees, target marketing, international access symbols, and standardized signage as part of your marketing and communications strategy will also be discussed.

 

Customer Service: Creating a Welcoming Environment

To ensure that all patrons/visitors with disabilities feel welcomed at your organization and cultural event, organizations need to provide educational opportunities and tools for staff and volunteers. This session will provide strategies on how organizations can provide a more inclusive experience for all its patrons/visitors with disabilities.

 
 

Invisible/Non-Apparent Disabilities

Not all disabilities are visible or apparent. People with invisible disabilities are a growing population. especially as the COVID pandemic continues.  As access needs are being re-evaluated to accommodate disabilities, those with invisible disabilities are often unacknowledged. Learn how invisibility is both a privilege and a problem and what organizations can do to welcome this very large segment of the population.

 

Creating a Sensory Experience for Those Who are Blind/Low Vision

Learn how to design a tactile cultural experience for those who are Blind/Low Vision. Case studies of sensory experiences in theatre and music settings will be shared.

What are the legal requirements and accessibility standards to help organizations develop a deeper understanding of how people with disabilities interact with their environment. Examples of how to remove barriers in outdoor settings will be discussed.

 

Prioritizing Accessibility in a Small Arts Organization

May 4, 2022 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

For an organization with few staff and limited resources, accessibility can be overwhelming.  This session will provide tips on how an organization can get started and build their accessibility toolbox.
